Stargazers in Bonaire, get ready for an incredible experience!

On the nights of July 29-30, 2025, two amazing meteor showers

—the Southern Delta Aquariids and the Alpha Capricornids—are joining forces,

creating a breathtaking spectacle in the skies above the island.

With the Moon only 27% full, the darker skies will unveil 10-20 meteors

per hour from the Southern Delta Aquariids, along with dazzling fireballs

from the Alpha Capricornids, which produce 3-5 meteors per hour.

When & Where to Look:

- Peak visibility: Midnight to pre-dawn (July 29-30 and July 30-31).

- Direction: Look toward the southern sky, focusing on the constellations Aquarius and Capricornus.

- Location tips: Bonaire's minimal light pollution means even beaches and rural roads offer excellent views.

Observational Checklist:

- Find a dark spot - Move away from town lights for a clearer view of the sky.

- Lie back comfortably - Bring a beach chair, blanket, or yoga mat.

- Let your eyes adjust - Avoid bright screens for at least 20 minutes.

- Check the weather - Skies in Bonaire are expected to be mostly clear.

- Face south - That's where the meteors will appear to radiate from.

- Stay patient - The best show often comes after your eyes fully adjust.

- Bring a camera - Use long exposure settings for night sky photography.

Why It's Special in Bonaire:

Bonaire's southern latitude provides a better angle on these showers than many northern locations.

The Southern Delta Aquariids, in particular, appear higher in the sky here, meaning brighter and more frequent sightings. With warm weather and the sound of waves nearby, it's the perfect natural planetarium.

What to Expect:

The Southern Delta Aquariids produce fast, faint meteors that sometimes leave glowing trails. Meanwhile, the Alpha Capricornids-though fewer-are known for their fireballs that can outshine Venus. Together, they make for a stunning spectacle.

Final Tip:

Bring a friend, some snacks, and maybe a little music. Meteor watching is best when you can relax, look up, and simply let the show unfold.

Clear Skies!
